As if acne isn’t bad enough, a scar that develops after a pimple can take weeks or months to fade — if it fades at all, notes the informational website KidsHealth.org.

Skinssence's home care tips to control pimples:

  1. Try not to pick or squeeze pimples. It can make the inflammation worse and cause scarring.
  2. Self-removing blackheads is not recommended.
  3. Clean your skin gently twice a day and after exercise; avoid excessive scrubbing.
  4. Use a cleansing lotion or skin wash (as a soap substitute) to wash your face; regular soap may be too drying.
  5. Avoid using oily or greasy products on your skin or hair.
  6. Most treatments should be applied to the whole area of the affected skin, not just to individual spots or pimples.
  7. Some products should be tested on a small area of skin when using for the first time to test for any allergic reaction; see individual products for details.
  8. Small amounts of sunlight may help dry out pimples, avoid getting sunburnt by wearing a non-comedogenic (non-oily) SPF 30+ sunscreen.
  9. Even after all the above measures if your pimples are particularly severe, we can help you.

Does acne mean not keeping the face clean enough?

Acne can be caused by a number of triggers, and however much you clean your face it’s not going to affect how crazy your hormones are being. Sometimes, cleaning your face too much can even contribute to acne as it can aggravate spots. After cleaning using alcohol-based cleansers can dry your skin out and this isn’t a good thing for pimples. Despite what you may think, and even if you feel like you have excessively oily skin, it’s still important to use a moisturizer – just make sure you opt for a non-comedogenic one.

How we will help you?

Safe and effective treatment for acne scars begins with a consultation. Severe inflammation and injury can lead to disfiguring scarring, which has a considerable impact on the quality of life. But our aim is to get you to a place where you’re happy with the way your skin looks. Our skin experts are passionate about improving and controlling your symptoms so you can live your life without worrying about your skin. We’re here for you every step of the way.
At Skinssence numerous therapeutic options for acne scarring are available, including MicroNeedling with and without Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Lasers, and Chemical peels, with different modalities suited to individual patients and scar characteristics.

Acne scarring treatment with active acne:

We will have to wait to begin your acne scarring treatment until your skin is relatively clear. It is important to ensure active acne treatment before approaching scar treatment. Any treatment can irritate your acne which can often be painful and sensitive.

HydraFacial

Skinssence Clinic’s HydraFacial treatment has wonderful results in skin rejuvenation including active acne by reducing the build-up of excess oils, thus prevent the growth of bacteria and clear the skin by removing congestion and impurities. This incredible, non-invasive treatment detoxifies, rejuvenates, and protects your skin for immediate results and long-term benefits without downtime or irritation.

Medical Grade Peels

By removing the dead skin cells which clog your pores, chemicals peels encourage new cells & promote collagen production leaving your skin looking firmer & smoother. The Intense Acne Peel at Skinssence works on mild to severe acne (Grade 0 to 3) and has a 4 step mechanism.

  • Deep cleanses blocked pores.
  • Slows production of sebum.
  • Removes bacteria and impurities.
  • Improves skin texture and discoloration.

Micro-Needling

It has been proven to significantly reduce the effects of acne scars by puncturing the skin with incredibly fine needles to encourage the skin to heal with new layers of collagen and elastin fibers. Deep scars or pockmarks are lessened and skin has a more even tone and texture in as few as three treatments. The new skin that’s created will be firmer, brighter, and smoother.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular non-surgical skin resurfacing treatments. It is a non-chemical, non-laser treatment to consider for reducing acne scarring. The scar treatment provides an almost instantaneous facelift and encourages blemish-free facial cell regrowth. This amazing treatment buffing away the dead skin cells leaves the skin looking more radiant and feeling smoother.

How to Prevent and Manage Acne Scars?

The acne scars may cause embarrassment for most people, but let’s face it, we are no wizards.  Here are some tips on preventing and managing the scars:

Treat your pimples as a priority
Do not delay your acne treatment. If you have a pimple, consult a doctor. Do not take your skin for granted. It can spread fast and intensify quickly. Treat your acne as soon as possible to avoid getting scarred skin.

Keep your hands off
As much as you want to pop your pimple, do not do it. This can increase the damage and result in acne scars. Avoid touching or pressing the affected areas.

Get to know your skin
If you are suffering from acne or it keeps on reappearing, you should try and observe the triggers. The causes can be your diet, daily routine, or a face product you are using very often. Avoid all the possible triggers.

Get professional help
You should get professional help if your acne has not healed for a long time or it is getting painful. Skinssence clinic can provide you with better assistance and help you plan your treatment.

Acne/Acne Scarring FAQs

Yes, we help clients with all types of acne. The treatment solutions we offer will depend on the grade. But even if you’re thinking your acne may be too severe to treat, we have expert doctors who are able to recommend highly effective treatments, home care and prescribe medication if required.

First we determine the type of scar you have. It is essential we wait until your skin is almost clear of acne to begin treatment. Many of our clients see great results from MicroNeedling where a course of three is required at four week intervals. You may be looking at a minimum of three months to see any substantial results.

In most cases the results will be permanent, however if you suffer from acne again, there is a risk that new scars will form.

You do not need to stop wearing makeup. You should wear makeup that is non-comedogenic. This means it doesn’t block the pores.

Everyone is different, but acne – more often than not – does eventually go away.

That said, our skincare specialists have worked with many clients who wanted their acne to disappear and felt like they had tried everything. As you will see from our success stories, we have had hugely positive and effective results.
