What is Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is concentrated blood plasma which contains approximately four to five times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood. In addition, it contains platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor (TGF) and many bioactive proteins that aid in wound healing and hair growth. At Skinssence Hair Clinic, we are excited to announce a new non-surgical treatment option for hair loss, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy as a treatment option for both male and female hair loss.

What Happens During PRP Hair Treatment?

PRP treatment is a safe option for patients experiencing hair loss. Blood is taken from the patient’s arm and then spun in a machine called a centrifuge. The spinning separates the blood into two sections. The section we call PRP contains special cells called Platelets and growth factors that can cause the growth of the hair follicles by stimulating cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle. These special platelet cells promote healing, accelerate the rate and degree of tissue healing and regeneration, as well as improve response to injury and formation of new cellular growth. It is this PRP that is re-injected into the hair loss area.

The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase. Through careful follicle stimulation, PRP can drastically improve the appearance of hair fullness, thickness, and volume. PRP treatment is an evidence-based procedure supported by positive results in clinical research looking at the effects of PRP therapy in hair restoration.

PRP is the perfect treatment for both male and female pattern hair loss, various forms of alopecia, and those suffering from hormonal imbalances that have lead to hair loss. Platelet-rich plasma treatments has great healing power. There are several conditions for which platelet-rich plasma treatments may be beneficial. Some examples include are osteoarthritis, Chronic neck or back pain, Shoulder pain, Muscle injuries and sprains.

PRP For Skin Rejuvenation

PRP Cosmetic Rejuvenation works pretty much the same way. Once injected into your skin, the platelets will accelerate the normal healing process and stimulate the body to produce new collagen (what tendons are made of) at the injected area. Here’s the list of cosmetic procedures commonly performed with PRP:

  • Wrinkle improvement: fine wrinkles, eye wrinkles, wrinkles around the mouth, forehead wrinkles.
  •  Skin pores and elasticity: reduction of skin pore size, improvement in skin elasticity, and skin tone.
  •  Skin pigmentation disorders: skin whitening against hyperpigmentation such as freckles, skin blemish, etc.
  •  Other applications: improvement in hair loss, chapped skin, burn wound, dark circle, etc

Microneedling with PRP

Another very effective hair loss treatment is the application of PRP to the scalp, followed by a MicroNeedling session. The use of micro-needling allows PRP to move quickly beyond the skin’s surface where it can be more effective. The combination of these two effective treatments has helped many of our Skinssence clients grow thicker, healthier hair. Micro-Needling with Dermapen involves the creation of thousands of tiny holes in the skin’s surface. The benefits of micro-needling are twofold. Firstly, these micro-wounds signal that the skin has been injured, which provokes a healing response, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin. Secondly, Microneedling creates tiny pores on the skin’s surface that allow for optimal absorption of topically applied medications or serums.

Mesotherapy for hair loss

Mesotherapy is a pain-free and non-invasive treatment that delivers vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and co-enzymes tailored to your needs through micro-injections to your scalp. This can boost blood circulation and enable the hair follicle to survive to stimulate growth. Through the use of Mesotherapy, we’re able to correct hormonal imbalances around the hair follicles. PRP boost the health & condition of the scalp naturally without harsh chemicals or drugs.

can all cause hair loss. Avoid claim offering miracle cures since they are
rarely effective.

PRP tends to improve hair thickness and hair growth for about four to six weeks, requiring repeated treatments once a month for 3 months. However, patients may require their repeat PRP treatment after 6-12 months in order to maintain hair density.

People with poor hair growth and weak hair are ideal candidates for PRP treatment for hair loss.

There is no downtime as such. You can resume your daily routine just after the treatment. After a couple of hours, you can even style your hair the way they want, take shower, or even shampoo.
